bart buttons

I have one of those awesome button machines and I have started making BART buttons. Yeah, buttons out of old BART tickets. Usually they are ones tossed aside by fare evaders of people who can't be arsed to collect enough 5¢ cards to make enough for one ride. It's a rather slow process, collecting all those worthless tickets, but the buttons are pretty rad. Usually I will hand them out to friends and BART employees.
I'm thinking of contacting BART to see if I can get a hold of a bulk of old tickets. Since they are plasticine, they are not recyclable therefore I can make art out of what would otherwise be trash.
Does anyone have an idea on whom I should contact? Or, do you know if they are required to keep them for audit or destroy them for kicks and giggles?

I bet they destroy them for
I bet they destroy them for im sure loss control reasons. Go to the customer service center at Lake Merritt Station. Maybe they can help you.

You won't be able to. They get destroyed and the ones that don't are there for audit reasons. The only slight possibly way to get them is to ask one of the station agents, even then it could cost them their job.

Now that I think about it, it sorta makes sense. Theoretically, I could use all those old tickets for wrongdoing. Maybe riding BART for free by re-encoding the magstripe. Oh wait... nothing stops me from buying a cheap ticket and recoding that one. Hmmm. Nope. Makes no sense.
O-well. It's the government.
And I'm tired and snarky. Hopefully it was good for a chuckle. :)
