Just experienced my first train shut down....

Last night about 10:45 the train came to a complete stop right out of the city center station, The announcement came over the PA and the lights went out for a few minutes. After that the train started up again and ran fine until it reached Macarthur at which time the doors stayed shut and the conductor/driver needed to check a panel in each car looking for the issue. After what seemed to be a lifetime the doors were opened and we were told to get out, cross the platform and board the next train because this one was no longer in service.

I have only been riding Bart for a few weeks and was wondering if this was normal for when things like this happen?

It doesn't happen that

It doesn't happen that often, but that procedure sounds about right.

If a train is having difficulties, instead of fighting with it *hoping* that it will
cooperate, it's easier to take the train out of service and get the train out of the way and to the shop. That way, you minimize the delays.

Better to get you to your stop late than never.
