This is where the budget is at

Check out the pie chart. It shows that BART’s front line workers - the people who operate the system day in, day out - make up just 21% of BART’s total budget. Earlier, BART executives claimed that “nearly 75% of the operations budget is worker-related” and called for layoffs and cutbacks for front line workers, and service reductions for BART riders.

The same chart shows that Capital expenditures - projects like the ill-advised $522 million Oakland Airport Connector that executives are pushing, the never-implemented Advanced Automatic Train Control project, which BART executives wasted $200 million on, and hundreds of millions of dollars in outside “consulting” fees — make up the majority of BART expenditures. What makes more sense - cutting BART service or cutting executive waste and mismanagement? We think waste.

I think the Management gets

I think the Management gets consultants because they can cut the waste anytime. If they hire more employees, they become a part of the Union and the waste stays for life.

There are consultants who

There are consultants who have been at BART for 20+ years now. Many of the consultants cost far more than employees would because, in the end, it's often the employees who have to undo the work the consultants did, such as the $200 million train control software fiasco.

The budget is still in the

The budget is still in the 21% not like the 73% they are claiming. I guess you did not look at the chart

This pie chart shows the

This pie chart shows the Total budget. Is there a pie chart of the Operations budget?

assiming the pie chart

assiming the pie chart numbers are legit, of the operating side labor appears to be 42% capital is totally separate because most of it comes from specific sources tailored to specific projects. So, in fact BOTH 21 and 73 are bogus.

Who cares?

How much do front line workers make? $50K? $60K?

Sorry, but the job is far too easy for that kind of money.

Just curious, have you done

Just curious, have you done the job or talked to someone that works there?

I just want to make sure you are not just someone that has no idea as to what they do.. There are alot of trolls here that say that, yet they only know what they see in the 5 minutes of contact and not the training involved or what happens behind the scenes.

Troll or experienced?
