Will there be riots when the verdict for the Mehserle trial is anounced???

SFGate is saying that there are basically going to be riots in Oakland no matter if the verdict is Guitly or Not Guilty or anything less that first degree murder. But I am not so sure. It seems like a lot of hot air and most people I know do not care about the case any more.
Do you think there will be riots? If so what is the best way to avoid them?
Would it be enough to just stay out of Oakland or would I have to stay off of BART completely?

The charming and intelligent
The charming and intelligent residents of Oakland don't need much of an excuse to go ballistic--
kind of what happens after the Lakers are in the finals, win or lose.
I would stay off the system completely; you could wind up stuck or seriously delayed even if you are
not in Oakland.
Let's be very clear about who
Let's be very clear about who started the riots last time and who will be starting them this time. White people. White anarchists who don't live in Oakland who live off their trust funds come to Oakland from Berkeley and San Francisco to start a riot. Locals who are bored and needing little excuse to join in a confrontation with police get involved but these riots are orchestrated by the same kind of losers who trashed Toronto last week.
I haven't posted here in months if not years and rarely lurk here at all anymore because the collective IQ of the posters here is not even equal to my shoe size. I see no few people post here anymore.
You, sir, are a good argument
You, sir, are a good argument for clean needles.
Weird, because everyone I saw
Weird, because everyone I saw looting and destroying businesses in the first Oscar Grant riots was black...
White anarchists in
White anarchists in blackface?
Last seen heading west from
Last seen heading west from the Montreal soiree.
yes there will be riots
yes there will be riots unless he is found guilty of murder. How big is the question. The type of people who "riot" don't need much motivation to do so.
Its sad really, it wont change anything and all it does it hurt their own community.
I also worry about riding on BART for a while, there might be a "pay back" attitude out there from the radicals, and being white, blond-blue I for one will stay off the system through Oakland for a while.
Oakland Police reported today
Oakland Police reported today that 75% of those arrested in last year's riots were not from Oakland. I know it kills you racists to believe that not everyone in Oakland is a criminal. Or that not everyone who lives in Oakland is even black.
The blackface to which you refer is actually white people wearing black ski masks. There were black and brown participating but the people who orchestrated the riots last year were white trust fund anarchists from other cities.
Oakland community leaders have called for peaceful demonstrations. Oscar Grant's family pleaded for calm last year.
I was not being racist I was
I was not being racist I was being realistic..if someone out there wants to "even things up" for a white cop killing a black man who do you think will be the target? Come on get real.
Where did you see this
Where did you see this figure? I would really be interested to know who reported this.
Not even close to true. How
Not even close to true.
How on earth would Oakland PD even know this???
It's not like the rioters all stopped to answer questionnaires about where they live!!!
White anarchists don't live
White anarchists don't live in Oakland because they are afraid of the black rioters...
they said 75% of people
they said 75% of people ARRESTED were not from oakland, not 75% of the rioters. i've never been arrested before, but i'd imagine that they don't release you until you show some form of ID and they check to make sure there are no outstanding warrants.
well who cares then? the
well who cares then? the percentage of people who were arrested has nothing to do with the percentage of people who were rioting.
i am surprised it was not 100% of the people arrested from not in oakland. people in oakland have no respect for the police so they would never obey police orders anyway.
Here's how it'll basically
Here's how it'll basically break down:
Not Guilty - Riots because justice wasn't served
Manslaughter - Riots because the penalty was not severe enough.
Guilty - "Celebrate" in the streets.
SF Gate seems pretty accurate to me.
And of course celebration to
And of course celebration to Oakland includes still burning and shooting in their city.
And i mean of course more than the normal nightly shootings they have.
I live in Oakland. I will not
I live in Oakland. I will not be rioting.
Professional agitators planning a protest the day of the verdict has nothing to do with outrage or being black or even this Mehserle case. The people involved in planning the riots are career "anarchists" from outside Oakland who believe this will be the spark that starts the race war that will eventually overthrow the government... and then what? They don't know...
I ride BART every day and there is no undercurrent of rage or fear on the trains. People are just trying to get by. Oakland today just isn't a powder keg waiting for the spark no matter how much the outside agitators would like it to be that way. Planning a riot ("meet up at six on the day of the verdict") is pretty damn desperate. If people were truly fed up they would be out smashing BART trains now.
Bottom line is Oakland will be just fine. If there are calm protests or violent riots Oakland will be fine. The people that come to Oakland and riot will be dealt with and we'll be fine. If there are people from Oakland that get involved they too will be dealt with and we'll be fine. Life will go on and the trains will carry me and my fellow BART passengers to and through Oakland just like they always do and everyone will be just fine.
"career anarchists from
"career anarchists from outside Oakland"???
You must be smoking the strong stuff!
KRON is going out of its way
KRON is going out of its way this am to blame "anarchists" for Oakland's
violence and to point out most of the window smashing downtown was done by
whites. They then show tapes of black rioters busting out the glass at
Footlocker and a beauty store and looting the establishments. Something
of a disconnect here---
Blaming outside agitators is a ploy to diminish attention from the real
criminals; Oakland thugs.
The Oakland Police and The
The Oakland Police and The Chronicle must be in on the conspiracy too:
"Many of those arrested were "anarchist" agitators who were not from Oakland and wore bandannas, hoods or black face paint, police said."
Why on Earth would anyone want to diminish attention from the real criminals? It's obvious that there are some dangerous predators in parts of Oakland, and all cities (i.e., last weekend in San Francisco, last night in Walnut Creek) that commit murder and all forms of awful violent acts. The "thugs" as you call them were not there last night. Why would they be?
And another thing, black people can't be anarchists? What does being black have to do with any of this?
If these agitators were
If these agitators were arrested, as claim the Oakland police, who are
they? Why don't we know their names and see their pictures? Back in the
day we knew who the Weathermen were, who the Panthers were. If these
"anarchists" are real where the hell are they?
Shifting the blame from the rioters onto some shadowy, sinister organizers
gives the public something eles to focus on other than the fact that a
significant number of Oakland residents are just waiting for a chance to
erupt into violence. Remember the citizens who protested the death of
Lovell Mixon after he murdered 4 Oakland officers? Wonderful folks.
What does being black have to do with anything? Nothing, except the
anarchists are always referred to as white. I would like to see who
they are.
I don't know who these people
I don't know who these people are? Could be the CIA for all I care... Could be a bunch of bored punk rockers... who says it wasn't the Weathermen or the SLA or the Black Panthers? It doesn't matter who they are, all I can say is I don't recognize their behavior in my daily interaction with my neighbors in Oakland -- who I can assure you are not "just waiting for a chance to erupt into violence".
Again, I'm not saying there aren't bad people in Oakland. They just weren't the ones that got this riot thing going. There was no reason for gang bangers and murderers to be hanging around 14th and Broadway last night. Did regular folks from Oakland get caught up in the looting? Yes! No doubt about it but as is, at least to me, self-evident by the pictures of the riot they weren't the ones that instigated it or were agitating for it. I see women in dresses, kids trying to hold up their pants... hardly a group of violent thugs rampaging through the streets. On the other hand I see guys with their faces covered, messages spray-painted on banks and the like, cans of paint thrown at police officers... this isn't the work of someone who wanted some free Jordan's!
BTW - Here's a picture of one of the folks that was arrested, Sam Whitman A quick search for his facebook page shows he's not from Oakland... Sam Whitman's Facebook Page. You could call him and ask him who he's affiliated with, his phone number is on there.
and what is this? I really can't see the "thugs" you talk about standing around to tag that message or this one .
Peace man! Take care.
As predicted... Everything is
As predicted... Everything is fine. I rode BART from Oakland to San Francisco this morning and I even got a seat! No panic, no fear, no chaos.
