Probably because the morons

Probably because the morons responsible are not at BART. BART refused to accept the first ones due to bad welds.

I am wondering if it is crappy American or Chinese work?

BART does not build their own stations, they usually farm out the work to the lowest bidder and to minorities. Then they inspect the work.

Not sure who the contractor is though. But some people sure are quick to place blame and make BART out to be evil.

If the morons aren't at BART,

If the morons aren't at BART, why did BART accept and pay for substandard walkways? And in which way are the walkways unsuitable to cross over a freeway?

Not sure about this time, but

Not sure about this time, but when BART rejected the walkways before it was due to substandard welding (see first post)..

That would make it fairly unsuitable to go over a freeway..

I think it is crappy Chinese

I think it is crappy Chinese work.

The whole reason that so many construction projects are going over-budget these days is that the fucking jackasses who set these things up decided to contract almost all the construction work out to China, and China has been jacking up the costs of all their metal goods.

Even when the government tries to do the right thing with stimulus money, the morons who run the companies that get these projects just use that money to buy crap from China.

Just wait, our new Bay Bridge

Just wait, our new Bay Bridge is made in China! The reason why shipment of the prefab pieces from China has been delayed was because inspectors discovered the crappy welding job the Chinese did.

Wow, does it really cost that

Wow, does it really cost that much more to just make them here in the US, as opposed to paying twice as much to fix up the mess they contracted out? Stimulus money belongs in the US.

Anything going over CalTrans

Anything going over CalTrans property must undergo a vigorous review process - from design to installation. The vehicle causeway from the parking structure to the station failed CalTrans inspection due to inadequate welds. The steel fabricator in this case was a local company HQ'd in San Leandro, CA. You can see the framework among the growing weeds at the 580/Foothill Blvd.

They don't want this to

They don't want this to happen:

Pedestrian Bridge Collapses

That was because of poor engineering, not any fault of the government. BART does not want this to happen to them.
