Sick people on bart with no common courtesy

Does anyone else seem to have any problems with all the sick people on bart? There isn't a day that goes by that I do not have someone cough, sneeze or pass bodily fluid in my direction. I would love to see Bart do something to help keep riders healthy. I would love to see free masks passed out to sick people and signs put up encouraging sick people to wear them. I think people are honestly afraid to do it because they don't want to look like some kind of freak. If you go to a country in Asia everyone on the trains wears masks, it's the norm. Why can't people do that here? I'm sick and tired of getting sick (and tired) from the idiots who don't know how to cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze. Something needs to be done already!

TSS, I couldn't agree with you more. People seem to think it's okay to get on the train and immediately start coughing, sneezing, blowing noses, etc. I had a guy sit directly behind me, and seconds after sitting he sneezed, but instead of covering his mouth with something, he basically used the back of my head as a kleenex. It took me giving him major stink eye to get an apology. Most of the time it is just people coughing (some covering mouths, some not), and it is so easy to just suck on a cough drop and keep the cough at bay. I've often thought of handing them out to coughers, but I'm sure that would be rude of me... BART should provide them next to the hand sanitizers.

I also agree. Now that the seats are closer together, it's even worse I thought I was going to catch some disease the other morning there were so many people coughing away and not covering their mouths. Between the gross trains and the gross people, I dread getting on BART every day now. I wish sick people would just stay home, especially with all these new super bugs around not covered in flu shots.

You want people to be socially responsible, and polite? Those are things long forgotten, generations ago.
If workers at BART actually felt honored to work here, and serve the public (as was the case in years past) there would be enough money to do the things people here complain about.

A lot of your concerns would go away if American companies (at all levels) gave their employees more paid sick leave. I guarantee that a lot of those sick people wouldn't be there if they could stay home and still get paid. And before you say it, I know it would be taken advantage of by some people. But I for one would be ok with that if it meant less coughing, sneezing and sniffling on crowded public transportation systems.
