Praise for quick police response
Hats off to Bart police for a quick response this morning to car 1838 heading inbound through West Oakland.
I don't consider myself a "suspicious package" alarmist, but I just had to call in a tip today. Some crazy person (clearly not maintenance) wheeled a blue recycling bin onto the car in which I sat at Fruitvale station, pulled a bag out of the top of the can, closed the lid, and ran away off towards the back of the train, leaving the can unattended in the car. After mentally wrestling with the decision whether to report it or not, I finally decided to go ahead and call. The operator picked up on the first ring and told me the train would be intercepted. Within seconds the train began running at a reduced speed between Lake Merritt and West Oakland. At West Oakland an officer stepped on, put on some gloves, checked the bin, and wheeled it off.
It obviously was most likely nothing but you never know! What strikes me most about this is what the heck had to be going through the head of the person who left the bin there - what the Hell was that all about?!

Glad you called it in.
From the pic it looks like no one else would have.

You know the economy's bad when the garbage men start taking BART to save gas.
