BART isn't perfect, but so much cheaper than driving
BART grosses me out as much as it does the next guy. But it's so much better than driving, money-wise. Especially since I moved to the East Bay. Check out the chart below.
I also wrote a full blog post about it. Weirded me out how much I was saving.

With driving you're paying
With driving you're paying for time and convenience. I had a reverse commute in off-hours so it took 30 minutes to drive from SF, and 40 minutes to drive home and I had free parking, so there was just gas and bridge toll.
BART took an hour each way door to door. So I saved 50 minutes a day, or 4 hours a week, or two entire work days a month by driving.
I still take BART occasionally but being cocooned in a comfortable car listening to whatever I want beats being asked for spare change in a stinking crush of humanity.
i agree. i pay $11.30/day to
i agree. i pay $11.30/day to take bart from fremont to civic center. driving, plus bridge, plus parking, would be at least $20/day. no brainer. bart ain't the best, but at least i always get a seat at my stops and it's fairly reliable and consistent compared to driving.
