nightrider oh for the public

oh for the public info-- BART wants Train Operators to compete in a APTA International Rodeo every year.. Its to determine who is the Best of the Best. Participants are judged on their Personal Appearance. Written Exam, Train Inspection, and who can stop their train closest to a RED CONE. WOW! The top two contestants will be flown to Toronto and compete for International Honors on June 2nd. Oh did i mention that only five operators competed this year. Last year it was almost double (9). Great Morale Move BART!
There won't be any BART
There won't be any BART (electric + wacky gauge) trains out in Toronto.
What kind of train will the BART-sponsored contestant be driving?
And what will the uniform be? the usual baggy pants and sloppy windbreaker?
Toronto? Probably needed a
Toronto? Probably needed a passport to cross the border. Hey, there's lots of reasons why someone can't make it on June 2 - like kids in school.
Or a wedding. I know of at
Or a wedding. I know of at least 2 I have to attend this year
nightrider Like I said -no
nightrider
Like I said -no morale- lots of excuses. I wonder how this will affect the outcome of their next CONTRACT..I think we are doomed because of the management structure.
Its a dam shame one has to
Its a dam shame one has to take a vacation day so you can be in the Rodeo... I guess this could be the reason for the high turn out....I guess, we will have to pay for our owe plane ticket and hotel...
nightrider lol I just read
nightrider
lol I just read that some train operators DID have to take a vacation day just to compete in this Rodeo. How cheap is that! Now lets see hummmm others that competed on their regular day off got paid but those who normally worked that day had to use their vacation day? Now thats fucked up! Management answer to that is if they paid everybody that showed up to REPRESENT BART--it would cost to much! Well I guess their plan worked..Im sure your union will have some say in this. :You should check out YOUTUBE.com and search OLD BART FARTS It shows what good morale and pride used to be like a couple of years ago at BART.
All sounds fine to me. These
All sounds fine to me.
These management sponsored "morale booster" happy/crappy programs SHOULD be roundly ignored by employees.
You do the job. They pay you. Then you go home and FORGET the freaking job till the next day... This sort of work is NOT public service. It is not the Arts or Sciences. You are just doing a job. Do not let mangement try to make a monkey of you.
Doing your job properly for your pay should be enough.
Doing your job properly for
Doing your job properly for your pay should be enough.
There is so much that is simultaneously right and wrong with this type of sentiment that I cannot figure out where to begin in addressing it.
Maybe it's just me. But,
Maybe it's just me. But, when I repeatedly have to yell to get the attention of the agent inside the booth to get her/him to stop reading the paper and answer my question, I start to think they aren't earning their pay. When I buy a 20 dollar ticket and on the first trip I use it, the agent tells me that it's worth $1.20 after it was rejected by the turnstile, I get annoyed at being accused of being a thief or a liar. Or when I see a guy trying to cut a chain on a bike with bolt cutters at the MacArthur station and tell the agent and the response is a shrug, I begin to suspect that the BART "employees" really aren't interested in earning their pay. And spare me the argument that this is a select few and most BART employees are thoughtful, hardworking and honest. Those employees are the exception at BART and not the rule.
I myself resent a customer
I myself resent a customer telling me there is X, on a ticket and after I run the Ticket, the computer tells me, there is Y on the ticket. I ask, do you have another ticket? There response is, " NO, I just bought that ticket!!" When in fact, the ticket was bought 3 days ago. The computer tells the agent, the vaule of the ticket and when it was last used and the current vaule. The agent has no vested intrest in lying to you, on the current vaule. Often times, customers buy a ticket, and put the ticket, with the rest of their, tickets. They become mixed up and then, when they do not work, people want to yell, at the agent. The agent can only tell you, what the computer says.
When you see someone cutting a chain at the station, the agent should call BART Police, failure to do so, is totally wrong, and you should report that agent--PERIOD!
Reading a paper, book, or magizine is against BART policy unless it is after: a certain time, I believe it to be after 800 pm, but I could be wrong. I would have to go ask, but if they are reading in the booth report them!
Just My 2 cents
That's a load of crap. You
That's a load of crap. You know as well as i do the issue with the new machines. I'm a police officer and you're an agent... We know these issues are widespread.
I was in a station and WATCHED a young man purchase a ticket, tried it, and it was coded for X. He brought it over and the agent had to T/D override it because it read COS as the entry, and we were at ROS.
Those new fare gates are in the shits. The tickets are sometimes encoded with bogus info right out of the TTG vendor.
PID911: Were you in private
PID911:
Were you in private conversation with the station agent your rebuttal would make sense, but on this public forum us laypeople can only guess at the definition of "T/D", "COS" "ROS", "TTG". I understand it's a normal part of your daily work life, but those of us employed outside the BART arena may not understand your abbreviations and jargons.
BUT to add my 32 cents after riding BART daily for more than 16 years, the only ticket problem I've ever had has been the rare demagnification.
Sorry about that! T/D = Time
Sorry about that!
T/D = Time and Date override, it allows Agents to override the entrance encoding on the ticket, if you ever get a Re-Entry stamp.
COS = Ticket processed in at Coliseum station
ROS = Rockridge station
TTG = The ticket vending machines in all stations
PPID911, you are confusing
PPID911, you are confusing issues. The vaule of the ticket is not the same as the point of entry station. True the 190 tickets due have problems, faregates?TVM's sometimes misencode entry/exit information or station information, but vaule of the ticket, never (at least I have not seen it) (which for the record, is why S/A's are suppose to test all gates, with a test ticket). The TDO has nothing to do, with the vaule of a ticket, which was what the post was about. It should be noted, in disputes over ticket vaules, an agent can print a ticket history, provided they know how, stop by the booth sometime and have an agent show you.
I'm just going off of what I
I'm just going off of what I observed. A young man was buying a ticket when I walked in the swing gate. He made eye contact with me and said good morning. I was speaking with the Agent when he walks over and explains that the ticket (which I WATCHED HIM BUY) didn't work. Sure enough it was coded for exit! I don't know why that happened, as I am certain that he purchased it, and his destination wasn't anywhere near cos.
Hmmmm...........................
WOW, WHAT A JOKE. Aren't the
WOW, WHAT A JOKE. Aren't the cars all automated? How about clear ENUNCIATION and the ability to announce the stops clearly and loudly? Some of these operators need to go take some speech therapy.
