Lake Merritt "customer services center"; inside paid area or outside?

Hi all,
I'm thinking of trying to save a bit of $$$ by buying and using a "BART Plus" ticket for December instead of my usual routine of a high value BART ticket + $45 monthly MUNI pass.
I'd like to be able to use a commuter check so I think, looking at the fine print on that BART Plus description on the web site, the only place where I can buy the ticket would be at the Lake Merritt customer service center.
So my questions are this:
1) is the Lake Merritt customer service center in the paid area or do I have to leave through the BART gate (which would waste a bit of the $$$ I'm trying to save) to get to it?
2) could BART Plus tickets be purchased at the ticket centers at Powell or Montgomery stations?

you can get them at powell,
you can get them at powell, montgomery and civic center as far as i know.
At Lake Merritt, it is
At Lake Merritt, it is located right outside the north/east paygate near the Laney College exit. I've never had a problem telling (asking) the station agent that I would like to go to the CS counter and back in. No more of an issue than asking to use the restroom if your not already in the BART system. They are also very nice people (most of the time).
Why waste your time and
Why waste your time and money going to Lake Merritt CS.. Although to answer your question you can get to the counter inside of the station.
(You do know that all the ticket machines sell BART+..)
Get that purple brochure.. It will list all the places that sell BART +..
I can't redeem commuter
I can't redeem commuter checks in vending machines.
Got that purple brochure with you? Will I be able to buy Bart Plus at the Montgomery and Powell transit center desks?
According to the website,
According to the website, the answer is yes. See http://www.bart.gov/tickets/sales/retailSales.asp for more info.
The real answer is NO.
The real answer is NO.
Just found out. Grrrr.
The Montgomery & Powell ticket outlets don't sell BART Plus passes. The only way to use my commuter checks with BART Plus is to go to the Lake Merritt station.
Why the station vendors can't sell BART Plus tickets is beyond my limited BART understanding.
So I bought my Bart Plus ticket in a vending machine and am saving my commuter check for another day.
I still have yet to find out if Bart Plus tickets are good for use on Cable Cars (I asked a couple brakemen and they said "yep", but BART station agents say "no", so I guess I'll find out when I actually attempt to use it).
And my jury is still out on whether or not Bart Plus is actually worth the hassle, versus just getting a $64 Bart ticket + a regular MUNI fast pass.
That is just peachy. BART
That is just peachy.
BART Plus tickets are sold in the one city where you can not use the "Plus" part ( on AC-Transit)
Funny indeed.
Funny indeed.
Commuter checks are good to
Commuter checks are good to buy regular BLUE tickets..
Do what I do.. Buy a blue ticket with your commuter check, then send it in for a refund through the Agent or send it in yourself. You can get the cash that way.
Some companies will give you a couple hundred in commuter checks. I take BART a bit more now, but when I drove I used the refunded money to help buy gas for my commute.
For you then can use the cash to buy your BART+.
It's a round the world kind of way to do it, but at least you don't waste alot of your time. And you get the benefit of the commuter check money that you would otherwise not get.
not sure if it is legal, but
not sure if it is legal, but i have seen people sell commuter checks on craigslist. if you find someone that works nearby your office, you might be able to work out a deal where you meet once a month and make a mutually beneficial exchange.
is it legal to get commuter check tickets for more than the cost of your public transportation? my company makes me sign a form verifying that the monthly cost of my commute is equal or greater than the value of my commuter check.
Where I work we get our
Where I work we get our "commuter check" like benefits are done by WageWorks.
They issue a restricted Credit Card for buying stuff instead of a paper check (as well as optionally depositing money onto your TransLink card and/or mailing you Bart Cards. )
I use my WageWorks Credit Card for my Bart EzPass in addition to having them put $45/month onto my TransLink card.

I never had to sign
I never had to sign anything, and a friend I knew only had to show how much it would cost if she rode BART daily.
There was never anything beyond that to prove you ride any public transit.
Some companies have switched to wage works because it is like a credit card.. Checks are just like cash whereas wageworks is credit card. And you cannot get cash back on a credit card at BART
