Progress towards the south bay
The feds just signed off on the environmental report to bring BART to the Berryessa area of San Jose. Apparently this is a good sign for the project getting $900M from the federal government towards its $2.1B construction cost. The Mercury News has more details.
The expected opening date for that extension is 2018.

BART to San Jose is the biggest boondoggle ever to come to the Bay Area behind MUNI's stupid Central Subway that barely goes into Chinatown. Besides, the reason why its only going to Berryessa is because the VTA can't afford to pony up the money to bring it to Downtown San Jose. San Jose already has Amtrak California and ACE serving it from the East Bay, they don't need BART running down there too.

No, it really needs to come south. Amtrak California only stops in San Jose 7 times a day, with the first train arriving at 7:50 am. Yea, it sucks.
But the VTA really shouldn't manage a damn thing. It fails at running adequate bus service and WILL fail continually, much less run a train segment as complex as BART. It can't even keep the buses running past 6:00 PM in many places! Every employee of the VTA administration should be fired, with their leader being taken out for a public stoning!!!
This random rage is an example of the collective hatred that South Bay residents share for this agency (VTA that is). For those who don't know whom I refer to, I refer to Michael Burns, the one man who singlehandedly robbed MUNI blind out the backside about ten years ago.
